From Tool to Platform

In 1996, CANape 1.0 was released as a CCP 2.0 master tool, marking the first time a powerful solution was available for standardized ECU measurement and calibration. This milestone laid the foundation for reproducible and efficient calibration processes in ECU engineering. Today, CANape is one of the leading tools in automotive industry, and still forms the backbone of modern application workflows.

The Complete History

Screenshot 1996 — Release of CANape 1.0 as the first CCP 2.0 master tool. First users develop a tire pressure monitoring system with CANape.

An important component of the success of CANape was Daimler's decision to rely on CCP for transmission development and use CANape as the measurement and calibration tool. Temic, one of the transmission ECUs suppliers, also decided to use CANape. The triumph of CANape as a calibration tool for bus-driven calibration begins. — Daimler relies on CCP and CANape for transmission development, and supplier Temic follows. This marks the beginning of CANape's success as a calibration tool.

CANape Graph is introduced, extending the functionality of CANape 3.5. CANape Graph is the first XCP master tool on the market – even before the XCP standard was officially adopted.

The "Advanced Multimedia" option allows users to record video and audio data in CANape Graph 5.5.

With version 6.0, CANape Graph is renamed CANape. CANape 6.1 introduces the Symbol Explorer, drag & drop support, and enhanced MATLAB/Simulink integration.

CANape 7.0: LIN support, customizable UI, audio measurements, and multimedia recording.

CANape 8.0 now offers data mining and calibration history functions.

CANape 10.0: Introduces bypassing on the VN8900, AUTOSAR support, pointer-based calibration, and vCDM integration.

CANape 12.0: Advanced bus analysis, vFlash integration, and support for CAN FD, XCP on CAN FD, and BroadR-Reach.

CANape 13.0: Data mining, calibration history, and Simulink integration.

CANape 15.0: Scalable ADAS recording, intuitive ribbon UI, and vCDM Teams collaboration.

CANape 20 boosts performance and data efficiency while expanding ADAS, AUTOSAR Adaptive, and video data support.

CANape 21.0 enhanced collaboration, hardware integration, data streaming, and system monitoring.

CANape 22.0: Unified data management, scalable logging, mobile access, and AI-powered ADAS setup.
