Precise and Reproducible Disturbances of CAN/CAN FD Networks

VH6501 is a flexible yet compact CAN/CAN FD disturbance hardware and a network interface for CANoe combined in one device.

In particular, the combination of disturbance hardware and network interface allows very simple test setups for CAN/CAN FD conformance tests without an additional network interface or a special cable.

Application Areas

VH6501 enables you to generate a wide variety of digital and analog disturbances precisely and reproducibly in CAN/CAN FD networks. Such disturbances are necessary, among other things, for these areas of application:

  • Determination of the sample point
  • Checking the behavior on reception of unusual or faulty CAN messages
  • Checking the behavior on disturbances during transmission
  • Purposeful causing the bus-off state

Such tests are an essential part of indispensable OEM conformance tests in the automotive industry. With the seamless integration of the VH6501 into CANoe and its CAPL API, you can implement these tests efficiently. One implementation example of such an OEM conformance test is the CANoe Test Package VAG, which, in addition to VH6501, uses also the VH1160 hardware as terminal control for complete test automation.


The exact visual representation of the disturbances generated by VH6501 and that of the reactions in the CAN/CAN FD network can optionally be done with the software CANoe Option .Scope and the necessary hardware. This approach allows you to analyze events very accurately and helps you to purposefully create your own tests.


Digital disturbances

  • Arbitrary sequences of dominant and recessive levels (including recessive stress)
  • Max. 4,096 level change in a sequence
  • Support for different trigger conditions:
    • I/O triggers

    • Frame triggers, e.g. SOF, Frame, Bus Idle, Error

    • Combined frame triggers for disturbing e.g. different IDs (up to 32 parallel conditions including wildcards)

Analog disturbances

  • Asynchronous, without own trigger condition
  • Support for different error and test modes:
    • Short-circuit tests

    • Cross-wiring

    • Modification of the R and C network parameters:

      • R: 500 Ω...25 kΩ (non-linear)

      • C: 100 pf...10 nF (non-linear)
