DO-178/ED-12 Tool Qualification

ページナビゲーション

Jointly published by Requirements and Technical Concepts for Aviation, Inc., (RTCA) and European Organisation for Civil Aviation Equipment (EUROCAE), the standard DO-178/ED-12, ‘Software Considerations in Airborne Systems and Equipment Certification’, is the primary document by which the aviation certification authorities such as the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA, USA) and the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) approve all commercial software-based aerospace systems.

Compliance with the objectives of DO-178/ED-12 is the primary means of obtaining approval of software used in civil aviation products. The VectorCAST platform addresses the automation of the software verification process as defined by DO-178B/ED-12B and DO-178C/ED-12C.

Using VectorCAST for DO-178B/ED-12B Tool Qualifications

The VectorCAST DO-178B/ED-12B Tool Qualification Kit provides documentation, test cases, test results, and procedures that help development organizations qualify VectorCAST automated embedded software test tools for projects based on the DO-178B/ED-12B standard. With the kit, you can streamline certification of your embedded systems developed using VectorCAST products.

Working with DO-178B/ED-12B Tool Qualification Kit

To use the VectorCAST DO-178B/ED-12B Tool Qualification Kit, follow these steps:

  1. Submit a request form with the necessary information to Vector Software
  2. Provide Vector Software with the VectorCAST configuration file for the Operational Environment for which the tool is being qualified
  3. Vector Software provides a customized Qualification Kit for the specified Operational Environment
  4. Provide the Certification Authorities with a Tool Qualification Plan
  5. Document the Tool Operational Requirements (provided in the VectorCAST TOR)
  6. Verify that the tool satisfies the operational requirements:
    1. Execute the Qualification Test Cases with support from Vector Software
    2. Provide the Test Case Results to Vector Software
    3. Determine and document tool limitations
  7. Vector Software provides a candidate TOR and TQD containing the qualification results and limitations
  8. Review the TOR and TQD and provide feedback to Vector Software if any changes are required
  9. Vector Software provides finalized documents upon approval of review changes
  10. Provide Certification Authorities with the finalized TOR and TQD

Using VectorCAST for DO-178C/ED-12C Tool Qualifications

The VectorCAST DO-178C/ED-12C Tool Qualification Kit provides documentation, test cases, test results, and procedures that help development organizations qualify VectorCAST automated embedded software test tools for DO-178C/ED-12C software projects. The enhanced Qualification Kit satisfies the requirements outlined in the new Software Tools Qualification Considerations (DO-330/ED-215) standard. As part of the DO-178C/ED-12C revision effort, this new document was developed. Its goal is both to replace the software tool qualification guidance of DO-178B/ED-12B and also to enable and encourage the use of this guidance outside of the avionics domain.
