In every development of ADAS functions their method of operation must be tested. To prevent time and cost consuming test drives ADAS data is logged in the vehicle and reused for different functions and evaluations later. Logging everything is a challenge. There are multiple sensor suppliers with a variety of products (based on radar, lidar and video technology) and complex ECUs. Terabytes of data must be stored in the rough automotive environment. Test drivers are responsible for recording the data in the vehicle. They must focus on driving and need therefore reliable and easy-to-use loggers.
Are You Still Configuring or Are You Already Logging?
Acquiring and recording data is one of the main tasks in road testing or development. If different sources are recorded
with individual tools, the result is a hodgepodge of different data loggers in the vehicle. CANape log is the solution for
ADAS logging tasks in the vehicle. All requirements can now be implemented using just one data logger.
SCALABLE ECU MEASUREMENT HARDWARE
You measure your ADAS sensors and ECUs internals via the VX1000 product family. The VX1000 base modules transmit debug or raw data to the logger (e.g. CANape log) in the form of Ethernet or XCP-on-Ethernet.
EFFICIENT AND FLEXIBLE LOGGING OF DATA
CANape log is a stand-alone logger for all ADAS and vehicle data such as vehicle buses, automotive radars/video/lidars, ground truth data and context cameras. It combines the possibilities of CANape with the strength of an automotive-grade computer. The mobile UI makes it an easy-to-use solution.

MEASURING AND VISUALIZING ADAS DATA
With CANape various sensor data are recorded synchronously. The architecture allows the integration of any kind of sensor. Use your CANape configuration directly with the CANape log solution: no extra configuration work and no space for configuration errors.
And the CANape Option Driver Assistance directly visualizes sensor data in various windows. Thus, correct positioning of your sensors and their function is verified in the vehicle.
Data Analysis and Function Validation
The use of measurement data places a variety of demands on the tools and the data. To select the correct measurement files in a further work step, so-called metadata are required. They provide information about the vehicle, the driving situation and the software status, for example. In addition to metadata, labels contain further information about the files such as number and type of detected road users, weather data, etc.
Video sensors and reference cameras record license plates. Due to data protection, these images must be rendered unrecognizable (pixelation). Finally, the data must be stored, transmitted and evaluated.
vSignalyzer & CANape
VISUALIZE, EVALUATE AND ANALYZE MEASUREMENT DATA
For data analysis vSignalyzer and CANape are available with the option Driver Assistance. You can use it to visualize and analyze measurement files. The sensor data is superimposed on the video window as graphic objects and can be visualized in a side view or bird’s eye perspective. Thereby you can verify the acquired data and add further metadata.
MANAGE AND ENRICH MEASUREMENTS WITH METADATA IN THE CLOUD
vMDM is a powerful database solution as a cloud application for storing and managing measurement files. This can be operated completely as a Software-as-a-Service in the Vector Cloud with minimal IT effort and fast availability. If your organization operates a private cloud in its own data center - using AWS or Microsoft Azure - it’s also possible to run it there as a self-hosted solution. When storing data in the cloud, metadata can be added automatically. Evaluations created with vSignalyzer or CANape allow you to analyze your data directly in the cloud.
EASY ACCESS TO MDF FILES FOR CUSTOM ADAS ANALYSIS TOOLCHAINS
For integration into your own software environment and for post processing of ADAS data in MDF format we recommend MDFlib. An easy-to-use function library for validating, sorting, reading and writing MDF files. It allows you to access measurement data: conveniently, efficiently, field-proven.
Implementation of Embedded ADAS Functions
Without new architectures and high-performance ECUs sophisticated electronic ADAS functions cannot be realized. The new software standard AUTOSAR Adaptive plays an important role here. Applying this standard, you are able to keep on track with high-performance-ECUs and the dynamic handling of executed software.
Especially in the case of ADAS functions there are multiple input sources like radar, camera and LIDAR sensors. All of these must be processed in an object fusion to provide a uniform object list of the vehicle environment for path planning and decision algorithms. The sensor fusion must comply with ISO 26262 (ASIL B) and should integrate smoothly with both AUTOSAR Classic and Adaptive.
In the process of integrating functional software into an ECU it is often the case that the physical target hardware is not yet available or can only be acquired in small quantities. The testing of the ECU requires the ECU itself as well as special hardware for stimulating and monitoring it. In time and cost driven automotive projects you can not wait with testing before you receive the final hardware.
BASIC SOFTWARE FOR HIGH-PERFORMANCE ECUs
MICROSAR Adaptive is the Vector solution for vehicles based on the AUTOSAR Adaptive Platform. It includes the AUTOSAR Runtime for Adaptive Applications (ARA) and comprises an efficient development environment integrated in Eclipse. MICROSAR Adaptive is particular suitable for high-performance ECUs such as in-vehicle application servers, ADAS ECUs and infotainment systems. You are offered a secure solution up to ASIL D, from the hypervisor to the POSIX operation system to ARA. There are specific ADAS functions and properties available in the MICROSAR stack.
BASELABS Create Embedded
DATA FUSION IN PROTOTYPE AND SERIES ECUs
To achieve a fast and efficient development of data fusion systems you can use BASELABS Create Embedded. It contains fusion algorithms that combine object data from radar, camera and lidar sensors. The resulting object fusion provides a uniform object list of the vehicle environment and serves as a basis for path planning and decision algorithms. The developed sensor data fusion can be directly integrated in series ECUs.
FUNCTION DEVELOPMENT WITH VIRTUAL TEST DRIVING IN CLOSED-LOOP SYSTEM TESTS
Virtual test drives help to gain feedback about the closed-loop system performance already during implementation. DYNA4 delivers the necessary models for such simulations. Test your system in relevant scenarios on a single desktop computer, in a continuous integration pipeline or on a HIL system as soon as ECUs are available in hardware.
VIRTUAL DEVELOPMENT AND TESTING OF AUTOSAR ECUs
In the development of fusion ECUs it becomes necessary to generate virtual ECUs. vVIRTUALtarget can be executed in real time or independently and is therefore ideally suited for this task.
Test and Simulation
Simulation-based testing has become an integral part of the development of ADAS/AD functions. On the one hand, this is due to the growing complexity of the functions themselves which are developed in distributed and interdisciplinary teams. On the other hand, changed methods such as agile development or continuous integration make simulations indispensable. The sheer number of necessary test runs cannot be handled with real test drives alone. Nonetheless, the traditional benefits of simulations hold true: exact reproducibility, high potential for automation and safety even in critical driving maneuvers.
TEST AND ANALYZE ECUs AND NETWORKS
The ADAS Feature Set as part of the CANoe base product enables the handling of ADAS objects like surrounding vehicles. Consequently, algorithms can be stimulated and tested with simple and complex scenarios or ECUs can be stimulated via network communication. Comprehensive analysis possibilities complement the ADAS Feature Set. Furthermore, CANoe remains to be the versatile tool for developing, testing and analyzing entire ECU networks as well as individual ECUs. It supports network designers, development and test engineers at OEMs and suppliers in the complete development process - from planning to commissioning of complete distributed systems or individual ECUs. This means that the same configuration including all models and tests can be used consistently in all phases. From MIL/SIL operation in purely simulated environments to the HIL test bench including all interfaces to communication networks and other I/Os.
MIL, SIL OR HIL VIRTUAL DRIVING TESTS
DYNA4 offers virtual test drives with its models for cars, trucks, environment sensors, road infrastructure and traffic. The seamless exchange of signals and objects between CANoe and DYNA4 allows to move easily from stimulation to closed-loop simulation. The simulations run on desktop computers in early development phases (MIL or SIL) and can be executed in real time on HIL systems as soon as the ECUs are available in hardware.
COMFORTABLE DESIGN OF AUTOMATED TEST SEQUENCES FOR EMBEDDED SYSTEMS
The powerful development environment vTESTstudio supports engineers to create automated tests, to increase the efficiency of test designs and simplify the reuse of tests. For this purpose, many approaches are available such as language-based programming, tabular and graphical test notations as well as different test design methods. vTESTstudio is used in all development phases from model tests to system validation. Due to its open interfaces, it can be flexibly integrated into existing tool landscapes, e.g. for requirements management.
MODULAR AND FLEXIBLE HIL TESTING HARDWARE
The VT System as an ADAS HIL System results in an ideal combination of the Vector software and hardware toolchain for closed-loop testing of ADAS/AD functions. The fast and easy configuration of the HIL system as well as the modular and flexible test set-up are tailored to test common ADAS applications like environment perception (e.g. lane detection), comfort functions (e.g. adaptive cruise control), safety systems (e.g. automated emergency braking) and automated driving.
