Indigo - Diagnostic Tester

Indigo is an easy to use diagnostic tester that is largely self-configured and conceals the complexity of the diagnostic protocols. It gives the user a quick overview of a vehicle’s status and allows detailed diagnostics of individual ECUs.

A wide variety of applications of vehicle and ECU Diagnostics are directly represented by Indigo. This makes handling of the various diagnostic tasks very convenient, and easy to perform with a minimum number of user interactions.

Application Areas

Indigo is designed for diagnostics of ECUs, systems and vehicles in the development - in the lab as well as in the vehicle. Thanks to its higher level operating concept Indigo can be applied efficiently without requiring detailed diagnostic knowledge by users.

In addition to diagnosing individual ECUs many use case windows provide also a direct view to diagnostic data of an entire system or a complete vehicle. Due to the possibility of switching from configuration into diagnostic mode and the consequent reduction of the necessary user interaction, Indigo can also be used perfectly on test drives. Captured data can be saved for later analysis and archiving purposes in well-organized Reports.

A created Diagnostics configuration can also be stored in a „protected“ (= „sealed“) format. Forwarding such a configuration to a third party is thereby very easy. This configuration can neither be changed, nor can the included diagnostic databases be viewed. Thus, only the execution of predefined functions is possible.

Starting with version 4.0, the diagnostic tester Indigo supports interactive remote diagnostics.

In comparison: A traditional diagnostic tester is connected to the vehicle directly through a network interface (VCI). This means that all required diagnostic data and the necessary diagnostic and module expertise must be available on site.

When using Indigo Remote for remote diagnostics, the traditional diagnostic tester is replaced by an Indigo Access Point. Together with the Indigo Remote Server, on the Internet, it serves as a gateway and transmits the diagnostic requests and responses between the vehicle and the actual diagnostic tester.

The diagnostic tester itself is located at the expert’s remote location. Neither the diagnostic data nor the expert needs to travel, but direct access to the vehicle is nonetheless possible.

All you need to use remote diagnostics is to download the Access Point on the vehicle side and invite an expert with a connection ID and password to a diagnostic session. No modifications to the vehicle are necessary, so that the test system is immediately set up.

With Indigo Remote, the diagnostic data, test sequences and security algorithms remain in a secure environment — all controls, interpretation and evaluation remain on the expert’s computer. End-to-end encryption guarantees high data security.

To use the full range of diagnostic efficiently, various technical procedures are employed to ensure high bandwidth and low latency. This makes it possible to access vehicles worldwide with very short response times — even when transferring large amounts of data.

  • Vehicles on test runs: During a test drive, a vehicle exhibits unusual behavior only under very specific conditions. A precise examination by an expert or system developer is needed. In very few cases, this expert is on site and can use vehicle diagnostics to read out important vehicle data and control actuators for testing purposes. With Indigo Remote, the expert can now access the vehicle directly, despite being very far from the site.
  • Vehicles in offshore production plants: Indigo Remote offers short-term support from remote developers for problems with the vehicle, system or ECU. Thus, both OEMs and suppliers can use remote diagnostics to diagnose their systems quickly and securely during start-up phase in a production plant.
  • Customer vehicles in the service shop: At service shops, there are sometimes situations that require consultation with an expert. For those, Indigo Remote offers prompt help from “vehicle doctors” or developers from the headquarters if an unexpectedly complex problem arises. This makes it possible to provide customers fast and cost-efficient repairs.
