Universal Measurement and Calibration Protocol XCP

The reference book "XCP – The Standard Protocol for ECU Development" describes the fundamentals and the application areas of the XCP measurement and calibration protocol. The authors describe:

  • Fundamentals of the XCP protocol (protocol and transport layer, exchange of CTOs/DTOs, XCP services)
  • Setting up and creating an ECU description file A2L
  • Different calibration concepts
  • Application areas for XCP (MIL, SIL, HIL, RCP, bypassing, virtual ECUs)
  • Example of an XCP implementation

In the third, expanded edition, the features of version 1.3 of the XCP-standard are taken into account. Focus is on the topics of time correlation and synchronization.

Printed, PDF & E-Book

The printed version has 128 pages with 168x238 mm page format and can be ordered free-of-charge. You can also get the book in three digital versions for download as a PDF file, EPUB or MOBI.

The EPUB format is specially designed for mobile devices such as tablets and smartphones and it requires special software for viewing the e-book (see list of readers in Wikipedia). The text is dynamically adapted to the screen size of the reader's specific device. MOBI is a e-book file for PDAs, smartphones and e-book devices like the Kindle.

Basic Information on XCP

The "Universal Measurement and Calibration Protocol" (XCP), like the CCP, comes from the "Association for Standardization of Automation and Measuring Systems" (ASAM) and was standardized in 2003. Vector played an important role in this release.

As a two-layer protocol, XCP systematically separates protocol and transport layer from one another and uses a single-master/multi-slave concept. XCP is able to use the same protocol layer on the basis of different transport layers. The "X" in XCP stands for the variable and interchangeable transport layer. Thus, it is a universal measurement and calibration protocol that functions independent of the used network type.

Technical Article: Overcoming Logging Challenges in ADAS Development Projects

The more tasks that driver assistance systems assume along the way to autonomous driving, the greater the number of

sensors in the vehicle from different suppliers. Real road traffic provides the ideal reference data for testing – in endless

variety. For this purpose, OEMs and system suppliers are sending test vehicles equipped with high-end data loggers onto

the streets to collect data. That data is then used to precisely ”re-simulate“ certain traffic situations in the laboratory

to test new or refined ADAS sensing and control logic. Instead of implementing numerous sensor-specific logging systems,

what is required are scalable approaches and strategies.
