A Comparison of SAE J1939 and UDS (ISO 14229) Diagnostic Standards

Certain industry factors, including an upcoming requirement for Medium Duty & Heavy Duty vehicles to support UDS for legislated OBD, are pushing more companies to investigate the implementation of UDS diagnostics in upcoming ECU development programs.

Traditionally, engineers have worked with either passenger car standards (SAE J1979/ISO 15031 and ISO 14229) or Heavy Duty standards (SAE J1939) for diagnostic implementations. These standards are quite different in their handling of diagnostic information and messaging.

This free webinar will provide some basic information about the differences between diagnostic implementations using SAE J1939 and those using ISO 14229, including 2 methods available for running ISO 14229 diagnostics on a SAE J1939 communications network.
