PREEvision is an innovative model-based CASE tool for the design, development, and evaluation of electrical/electronic architecture (E/E architecture) in embedded systems, e.g. in the automotive or aerospace industries. Its field is the rapid design and evaluation of architectural alternatives on the technical levels: topology, wiring, power, networking, and distribution of functions and the divergent customer requirements.
The use of a domain-specific graphical language allows a description of all the essential elements of an E/E architecture based on the data model using the graphical or table-editors. The resulting "200%" model; which contains and implements the entire concept of a vehicle, including all E/E characteristics of a vehicle series such as different propulsion concepts that are mutually exclusive and orthogonal to all alternative networking concepts, wiring configurations, and topologies.
The success factors of an E/E architecture can be specified and customized by an E/E architecture engineer. The success of an architecture can be evaluated based on different optimization goals such as weight, costs, communication need, robustness, etc. A decision can be reached by evaluation of the architectural concept in such a way that the multidimensional area, which represents the image of an architecture alternative compared with further alternatives. This benchmarking of the alternative E/E architectural concepts is made possible by PREEvision's customized metrics which are available on all modeling levels of the data model. The results of this efficiency comparison can serve the E/E architecture engineer as a decision basis for the definition of an architectural concept. They also supply important information for the further refinement of the architecture model in the development process.
The variant management module in PREEvision enables the E/E development engineer to easily develop a "200%" model capable of several architectural alternatives as part of a series or platform development. The variants include different features in addition to a series often mutually exclusive elements. The aim is to develop (through a clever combination of various equipment and the resulting architecture based on the evaluation metrics) an optimal-cost and robust E/E system.
