Vector develops customer-specific ECU software using the Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI). CMMI is used to objectively evaluate the efficiency of development processes, thereby assuring that Engineering services and software components purchased by the customer are of high quality.
Result Vector reached the Process Capability Maturity level 2, as established by the SCAMPI Class A-Appraisal in March 2006.
The certification emphasizes Vector’s requirement to deliver high quality products and services through the use of defined processes. These services are developments and consultations in the area of vehicle networks and ECU software as well as standard software components for FlexRay communication.
The CMMI Level 2 represents the maturity level “Managed.” This means that management processes are established to systematically plan, direct, and monitor individual projects. This specifically involves the following seven process areas:
- Requirements Management ensures that product- and component requirements are controlled within projects and that inconsistencies between these requirements and the project plan are identified.
- Project Planning means that defined project activities are planned, communicated, and maintained.
- Project Monitoring and Control guarantees that transparency for the project’s progress as well as the execution of planned project activities is maintained, so that appropriate corrective measures can be defined should the project execution significantly deviate from the established project plan.
- Supplier Agreement Management ensures that procurement from suppliers with a contractual relationship to Vector is managed and monitored.
- Measurement and Analysis means that measurements appropriate for the business and project information requirements are defined and maintained.
- Process and Product Quality Assurance ensures that employees, business- and project management receive insight into process and product quality from an independent source.
- Configuration Management ensures that software versions as well as related documents, tools, and files are consistent and that all relevant work products are managed within the configuration management environment. This guarantees the integrity of the software project’s configuration version.

SCAMPI Class A-Appraisal
The SCAMPI Class A-Appraisal serves to measure the fulfillment of the CMMI-model’s requirements, so that the results are exact, correct, and repeatable. Class A-Appraisal represents a complete evaluation in accordance with appraisal requirements for CMMI (ARC).
