Dear customer,
More than 70 participants from different industries met for the fifth Vector Forum at our headquarters. Looking at their feedback, it was a full success and provided answers to current challenges. Read our summary how Lean Development and Agile approaches help in improving development processes and thus quality, cost and cycle time. Learn from experiences at BMW, Bosch, EADS, Siemens and Thales, what is important in implementing "lean" and "agile."
Globally distributed engineering projects bear risks and challenges that go beyond what we face in regular projects. Many are not successful and do not deliver the expected savings. Distributed teams must be managed, delivery performance must be optimized, communication and collaboration must work across time zones. Our article presents lessons learned from global projects to effectively manage supplier relationships. They can be readily implemented, specifically our checklists for effective supplier management.
Requirements Engineering is a primary focus for successful projects and products. Our benchmark describes a field study with data from 246 industry projects in the domains of software platforms, embedded systems and applications. We found that four life-cycle techniques must be used simultaneously to achieve tangible performance improvement measured by schedule adherence. Each technique is elaborated by concrete, practical experiences.
Half of all change projects fail despite their ambitious goals and long lists of improvement activities. Why do they fail? The improvement measures are not often seen as organizational and cultural changes, and employees are not sufficiently supported in the change process. Too often aggressive improvement targets are set, which are not reached afterwards. Our key-note presentation shows what you should consider in change programs. Our Vector "Change Check" provides a checklist to self-diagnose your opportunities and threats.
Things do not always work as they should. In such cases, creative solutions are demanded. Take a minute and enjoy Dilbert's ideas to help his boss in a difficult situation.
